Darstellung Schlacht bei Wavre, Belgien
15. Juni 1815
Prussian Corps under General Johann von Thielman fought against three French Corps under Marechal Grouchy. A combined force of 33.000 French soldiers was drawn in battle against the rear guard of the Prussian Army in Wavre at the River Dyle.
On the morning of June 19th Grouchy managed to take the bridge (Pont de Christ) over the Dyle but heard only 30 minutes later what happened with Napoleon’s army at Waterloo the day before. The French victory was hollow and Grouchy abandoned the city to save his army. He managed to reach the French border in good order.
In preparation of the ‘bicentennaire 2015 ‘ of the Waterloo Campaign besides the battles of Ligny and Waterloo also this battle will be reconstructed for the second time. Next year’s event is well organised by the re-enactors association 8ème légère of Belgium and the Tourist Board of the City of Wavre.
We’re happy to invite Allied re-enactment groups to Wavre on july 2, 3 and 4th 2010 for battle and bivouac in the domain of ‘Château de l’Hermitage’. The battlefield is only a few hundred meters away.
Straw, wood and black powder are provided as well as the principal food ingredients (bread, meat, wine, water, vegetables, cheese, …).
About 200 tot 250 re-enactors are expected !
